Rivne Region in the Language of Medallic Art

Author: Oleksandr Vlasiuk Language: Ukrainian 2015. 164 pp. Version 1. This catalogue is devoted to coins, tokens, table medals and badges related to the Rivne Region. It continues the author's trilogy "Paper Money of the Rivne Region" (third edition, 2014) and its fourth part, "Philately" (2014). As the author notes, this is a catalogue rather than a scholarly study: a list of items known to him, with descriptions and images. Information on where and how the items came about is kept to a minimum due to a lack of information or its incompleteness. This is the first attempt to bring such items together in one publication, so the catalogue does not claim to be complete, especially since many of the items described were made in recent years. Tokens and medals are described together, as it is hard to draw a clear line between them: they often share the same purpose, appearance and method of manufacture. Prices in the catalogue are given in hryvnias (at the time of publication the exchange rate was 20 UAH to 1 US dollar). For modern items, including tokens of the "Tourist's Mint" trademark, the manufacturer's prices are given. Items made 20 or more years ago are valued based on recorded sales, how often they appear on the market, and their popularity among collectors. Registration "dog tokens" of the Second Polish Republic (1921–1939) are not covered in this catalogue. The author is collecting material for a separate catalogue of such tokens within the Volhynian Voivodeship.
